Creole Day at Duke University

digital media

October 28, 2019

This celebration marks the 7th annual International Creole Celebration at Duke University. This initiative was started by Prof. Jacques Pierre two years after his arrival at Duke University (Haiti Lab). According to Pierre, this activity enables students who have been studying Kreyòl at Duke University, Vanderbilt University, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and the University of Virginia to share their linguistic journey in Kreyòl with others. Since 2012 twelve students have already presented papers in Kreyòl, seven scholars around the world (Ayiti, Jamaica, Saint-Lucia, the United States, and South Africa) have been invited to Duke University to share their work on an aspect of Kreyòl with scholars and students at Duke University, and the Haitian band RAM was part of the event this year. May the teaching of Kreyòl continue to grow at Duke University and other universities that embrace the language. Thanks to: Hamer, Chloe (UNC, Chapel Hill) Bradley, Isabel (Duke University). Legros, Ayanna (Duke University) Huang, Jenny. (Duke University) Cannon, Surya (Duke University) Gaspar, David Barry (Duke University) Morse, Richard & the band RAM
