Educational Videos Increase Study Team Members’ Comfort With Enhancing Trial Participation of Children with Down Syndrome

Background: In a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development -sponsored Pediatric Trials Network trial for children with Down syndrome (DS) , investigators expressed concern that study procedures would negatively impact recruitment of children with DS.
Methods: We therefore created videos titled, “Videos for Enhancement of Participation and Cooperation in Study Procedures” and presented them at an investigator meeting. A post-viewing survey assessed the utility of these videos.
.Results: Study team members who viewed the videos reported increased comfort in conducting study procedures with children with DS (Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test: p<0.001). Research coordinators (65%) and study team members with less than one year of experience working with individuals with DS (85%) most frequently reported increased comfort levels.
Conclusion: These novel videos could be used by study teams and clinicians to try to make it easier for children with DS and all children to complete study and clinical procedures.
