Two Near The Edge, Duet dance company

  • Choreography, Dance Production

1992-2010. 16 years ago, I founded 2 Near The Edge Dance Company with Co-Artistic Director L.D. Burris. Often in collaboration with Mr. Burris (a founding member of Chuck Davis’ African American Dance Ensemble), I have created over a dozen works for the Company, including the evening-length works Night of Renewal and Bring Me Your Breasts. I have been fortunate to collaborate with premiere performing and spoken word artists including Scott Ainslie (blues guitar and vocals), Peter Kater (pianist and improvisationalist), Beverly Botsford (percussionist), Gregg Gelb (Gregg Gelb Swing Band), Jim Ketch (North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra), John Hanks (percussionist, composer), Jaki Shelton Green (poet), and Hsiao-Mei Ku (Ciompi Quartet). 2 Near The Edge has toured extensively within North Carolina and to points north and west, and has received grants from the North Carolina State Arts Council, The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, The Durham Arts Council, Duke University Institute of the Arts, Duke University Office of Community Affairs, and Alternate Roots. 2 NEAR THE EDGE is a proud member of the Raleigh/Wake County Artists in the Schools Directory, and we perform our lecture demonstration Freedom Seekers, a tribute to people and events of the Civil Rights Movement, for students of all ages.
