Unknown. Service to Community. January 28, 2009
Service to Community ; I work very closely with Duke’s Office of Community Affairs on several outreach efforts to the community through the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership. One activity is the Duke-Durham Campaign that is an effort to raise funds for community-based programs such as the Carter Community Charter School. I serve on the Board of the Carter Community School. I also participated in several professional development activities for local teachers, training workshops, and other community outreach efforts. In the summer of 2009, I continued to work with PIE faculty colleagues and with Fred Williams, DPS Director of Teacher Recruitment and Training, to coordinate the activities of the Center for Teacher Learning and Collaboration- an effort that was awarded $150,000 over three years by President Brodhead. I also made several presentations in local schools including one entitled The Wonder Years of Middle School; this was a workshop for approximately 30 parents of middle school children in the Durham Public Schools.
