Iain Colin Sanderson
Associate Consulting Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology
In October 2004 I took the position of Associate Chief Information Officer, Periop, for Duke University Health System. This position is combined 55%/45% with my faculty position of Associate Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology at Duke University Hospital.
In my role as ACIO, I am responsible for the clinical information systems in the perioperative areas of all the DUHS entity hospitals, including Duke University Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital, the Davis Ambulatory Surgery Clinic and Duke Health Raleigh Hospital. In 2004 I consolidated the new DHTS Periop group and planned for the replacement of the scheduling and materials management systems in all the DUHS hospitals.
In my faculty position, I practiced clinical anesthesia one week every month. I had one publication in 2004 relating to my work in data dictionaries as a member of the APSF Data Dictionary Task Force. My software program, ORview, is in ubiquitous use at DUH as the main means of looking up or processing OR schedules, anesthesia records, Post Operative Visits, pharmacy charges and Big Screens. It is used about a million times a year by Duke staff.
