TAKING NOTES: A COMPOSER LISTENS TO THE ART OF MUSICAL DERIVATION AND (In)APPROPRIATE APPROPRIATION. February 2, 2012

Lecture

Invited Lectures ; Anthony M. Kelley ; On Feb. 2, I offered a lecture for Duke Law School on Musical Borrowing for "Music's Copyright: A Historical, Incentives-Based, and Aesthetic Analysis of the Law of Music (781.01)," a course taught by Professor Jennifer Jenkins. The lecture, entitled, "TAKING NOTES: A COMPOSER LISTENS TO THE ART OF MUSICAL DERIVATION AND (In)APPROPRIATE APPROPRIATION," was a refined version of a presentation that I have offered once before, involving making the law students create a new composition and demonstrating the myriad ways that such music could be "borrowed" or re-purposed.
