The Use of Coptic Texts in Septuagint Research. July 22, 2010

Lecture

Invited Lectures ; Melvin K. H. Peters ; This paper reviews the place of the so-called Daughter Versions (Tochterubersetzungen) in the textual study of the Septuagint. Based on over thirty years of work on Coptic, I discuss reasons why conventional approaches to text criticism fail to take the witness of the versions seriously enough. I suggest a more productive approach to the versions and their use in Septuagint studies and further in text criticism of the Hebrew Bible.
