Religion, Spirituality, and Health: The Duke Experience

This chapter presents an interdisciplinary study on the links between religion and spirituality to health. It discusses the state-of-the science with regard to what is known about the links between religion and health. It reviews the major questions guiding the field, progress to date in answering those questions, and important directions for future effort. Throughout this review, it highlights the contributions of the research team at Duke University to this area of inquiry. The chapter also chronicles the history of the research program and describes the nuts and bolts, opportunities, and constraints to interdisciplinary research at Duke University.
