Occipitoatlantal and atlantoaxial dislocation

Published

Journal Article

Vertical distractive forces at the craniovertebral junction can affect the occipitoatlantal joint or the atlantoaxial joint. These lesions are part of the same spectrum of injuries. They share the same mechanism of injury and high mortality rate. They usually represent a pure ligamentous injury that causes severe instability and requires early fixation.
