Development of “Duplex” Doppler systems has spurred an increasing interest in ultrasound analysis of vessel anatomy, pathology, and flow physiology. Numerous systems are available, utilizing a variety of different approaches in providing flow velocity and image information. An understanding of basic Doppler principles as well as “Duplex” systems is essential in order to select and use this complex and rapidly changing technology. © 1988 Raven Press, Ltd., New York.
