Pancreas
Book Section
Imaging of the pancreas is challenging because of its anatomic location in the retroperitoneum and its intricate relationship with major blood vessels and bowel [1]. In the United States, acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatic cancer are the most common pancreatic disorders [2]. Gallstone disease, which is strongly associated with obesity and the excessive consumption of alcohol, is the major risk factor for benign pancreatic disease, whereas smoking is the most important risk factor for pancreatic cancer [2].
