The double-edge sword of secrecy in military weapon development

The Tomahawk missile is the United States Navy's premier land attack cruise missile and has enjoyed significant positive press during both Gulf Wars and in the recent strikes in Afghanistan. One possible conclusion to draw is that superior technology allowed the Tomahawk missile to ascend to such a status. Political and social forces also significantly influenced both the military and civilian acceptance of the Tomahawk missile system.
