Copolymerization of 2-cyanomethyl-1,3-butadiene with styrene and acrylonitrile

Poly(2-cyanomethyl-1,3-butadiene-co-styrene) and poly(2-cyanomethyl-1,3-butadiene-co-acrylonitrile) is synthesized via free radical solution polymerization. The cyano substituted diene, 2-cyanomethyl-1,3-butadiene has a higher reactivity ratio than both styrene and acrylonitrile. Results showed that the copolymers' glass transition temperatures are dependent on the monomer unit compositions in the copolymers and the corresponding copolymers are all random.
