Choosing the approach for revision total hip replacement is an essential part of surgical planning and should be done well before the patient enters the operating room. Planning includes selecting patient positioning, the location of the incision, techniques for managing previous incisions, the needed exposure equipment, and the steps needed to extend the exposure. More extensive exposure on both the acetabular and femoral sides is often required in revision surgery.
