A clinical and histopathological review of intermediate uveitis ('pars planitis')

Journal Article

Pars planitis with anterior and posterior ocular findings, without any clear systemic disease associations, continues as an enigma in the spectrum of uveitis and retino-choroiditis. In the course of pars planitis, a peculiar unwinding of subacute and chronic inflammatory processes take place. Perhaps initially retinal vasculitis develops either secondary to a virus or to environmental antigens with secondary histopathologic deposition in the peripheral retina, and later more devastating retinal and uveitis changes ensue.
