Wide-band aperture domain velocity estimator (WAVE) and narrow-band aperture domain velocity estimator (NAVE) represent a new approach to blood velocity estimation. When operating on data acquired from one dimensional arrays, these algorithms can yield two dimensional velocity estimates. Implementation on 1.5-D or 2-D arrays will allow estimation of the complete three dimensional blood velocity vector. Initial results indicate that WAVE offers significant performance advantages over standard estimators, at least for high signal to noise ratio environments.
