Attempts to demethylate methoxy derivatives of 2,2-dimethyl-Δ3-isoflavenes under acidic conditions (pyridine hydrochloride, aluminum chloride) led to facile rearrangement to the corresponding 7-hydroxyindenes. © 1965, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
