The mass of charged particles with a half-life in the order of 100 ms was measured using a Penning trap. The accuracy remained comparable to Penning trap mass measurements of longer-lived species. This was made possible by the development of a new efficient transfer of the ISOLDE ions into the trap using a RFQ ion beam cooler and buncher and a rapid measurement technique.
