Natural circular Dichroism of Co(H2O)62+ and Cu(H2O)62+ in a Chiral Lattice
Journal Article
The circular dichroism spectra of single, enantiomorphic crystals of 3a-Zn(H2O)6SeO4 doped with cobalt(II) and copper(1I) have been measured at ambient and cryogenic temperatures in the visible and near-infrared regions. Cotton effects associated with the ligand field bands of Co(H2O)62+ and Cu(H2O)62+ are observed and, for the cobalt species, exhibit extensive structure associated with both spin-forbidden bands and vibronic effects. In both cases rotational strengths increase substantially at lower temperatures and all bands in both cases (with only one exception) have the same sign in a given enantiomorph. © 1971.
