New modified labdane diterpenoids from cluytia richardiana

The aerial parts of Cluytia richardiana yielded two new labdane-type diterpenoids, named cluytene A [3] and cluytene B [4]. The structural assignments and relative stereochemistry of both compounds were established from 2D nmr spectral data and by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Furthermore, cluytene B [4] was found to undergo a peculiar elimination reaction when treated with 1,5-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-5-ene to give the highly conjugated product 5·. © 1994, American Chemical Society.
