SCALES OF MELTING IN THE PRESENCE OF NATURAL CONVECTION IN A RECTANGULAR CAVITY FILLED WITH POROUS MEDIUM.

This note focuses on the basic problem of melting in a rectangular porous domain heated from the side. The main features of the heat transfer phenomenon are anticipated on the basis of scale analysis. These predictions are later compared with results from a numerical finite-difference simulation.
