In this paper, the needs for an interdisciplinary societal program are first discussed. The format and philosophy of such a program are illustrated by a course in technology assessment and social choice. Typical exercises and principal areas of research focus in this course are described. Finally, some considerations are presented for curricula development for similar courses.
