Phosphorescence spectra and lifetimes of 1,4-naphthoquinone, vitamin K3 and K1

The luminescence spectra of 1,4-naphthoquinone, 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone (vitamin K3), and 2-methyl-3-phytyl-1,4-naphthoquinone (vitamin K1) were studied at 77 K in a hydrocarbon glass. In all three cases the nature of the luminescence can be assigned to a short lived phosphorescence from the lowest n-π* triplet state to the ground state. The lifetimes were determined using either a pulsed nitrogen laser or chopped UV light excitation
