ANALYSIS OF SPECT INCLUDING SCATTER AND ATTENUATION USING SOPHISTICATED MONTE CARLO MODELING METHODS.

A Monte Carlo-based computer program accurately simulates the SPECT imaging system response. The performance of the simulation is illustrated and system resolution, effects of scatter and attenuation, and the final image variance are shown to be comparable between the simulation and SPECT system. Two techniques for correcting attenuation and scatter are demonstrated to provide satisfactory results for the cases considered; however, further analysis is required to determine their accuracy in non-uniform attenuating media.
