Optimization of a distributed detection network using the minimum global cost criterion results in local processors that individually form the likelihood ratio when the input observation vectors are statistically independent. In addition, the local thresholds and the network performance can be expressed as a function of the receiver operating characteristics (ROCs) of the local processors. The performance of five distributed networks are compared numerically using local ROCs from the conic ROC family. Copyright © 1987 by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
