Taste detection thresholds in humans for eight out of ten sodium salts studied arc linearly correlated with molar conductivity values at infinite dilution of their anions. Thus, detection thresholds for these salts appear to be determineted by the charge mobihty of the anion. Age-related losses in detection threshold are greatest for salts with anions having the greatest molar conductivity. © 1990 Oxford University Press.
