Production of n and n̄ in π-p and π-Ne collisions at 200 GeV/c

The processes π-p→(neutral hadron) +X and π-Ne→(neutral hadron) +X at 200 GeV/c have been studied and compared by examining the secondary collisions of neutral hadrons in a bubble chamber. The results are satisfactorily explained in terms of n and n̄ production. The observed n̄ production rates are 0.10±0.04 per inelastic π-p collision and 0.07±0.03 per inelastic π-Ne collision. No evidence for new long-lived neutral hadrons is found. © 1976 The American Physical Society.
