A search for the kappa meson

An experiment has been completed in which we looked at the reaction K+ + p → Ko + π+ + π- + π+ + p using 3.52 GeV/c K+ mesons in the BNL 80″ chamber. This type of reaction produced a high yield of k's for an incoming K+ of 3.0 GeV/c. No evidence is found of the k at this energy. Some evidence of k production is seen in the reaction K+ + p → Ko + ωo + π+ + p. The conclusion is that the k is not a resonant state. © 1966.
