Yersinia enterocolitica: A clinical presentation mimicking neuroblastoma

Journal Article

We describe a girl with 4 weeks of abdominal pain, fever, and weight loss, in whom a 2-cm pararenal mass was found, consistent with neuroblastoma. Gastrointestinal work-up revealedYersinia enterocoliticain her stool, and she was treated with antibiotic therapy and observed. Her symptoms subsequently resolved and her mass decreased in size. This case broadens the spectrum of clinical disease associated withYersinia enterocolitica, and emphasizes the need to consider this pathogen in the evaluation of a child with an abdominal mass. © 1988 Raven Press, Ltd., New York.
