The diagnosis of outflow obstruction due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) may, at times, be difficult. The current modalities available for evaluating patients with symptoms of outflow obstruction are examined with emphasis on urodynamic studies and criteria which may be helpful in confirming a clinical impression of outflow obstruction.
