Controversial issues in the treatment of children with attention deficit and related disorders by psychopharmacologic and related means are reviewed. Positive effects of the medications are outlined, followed by discussion of the medications used in the treatment of attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity, and the controversies which surround these. Other approaches are mentioned as adjunctive, or in place of a pure medical management approach.
