Stressing the science of engineering

Adrian Bejan shares his views on the significance of science of engineering in design, theory, and practice. He states that human beings are selfish, as they design the future to be good to them and for their benefit. Geometry is the science of figures, while mechanics is the science of contrivances made with those figures. These two subjects are the foundations from which engineering and civilization have evolved and reached their existing states. Their impact on science is so great that most academics think that these men are scientists and not engineers. Engineering science consists of few principles on which nature is founded, such as he laws of mechanics, thermodynamics, and design. These few principles unite the animate systems with the inanimate systems, which are much older on the planet.
