Pulmonary circulation and the right heart in pediatric cardiac patients

Journal Article (Review)

The role of the pulmonary circulation in acyanotic and cyanotic congenital heart disease is first discussed. The myocardial and pulmonary vascular effects of hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass, with and without deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, are then described. The normal convalescence of pediatric cardiac surgery patients is discussed as a prelude to a discussion of a complicated postoperative courses where right ventricular dysfunction and pulmonary vascular hypertensive crisis are central features.
