Deep-sea benthonic foraminiferal data from four Eltanin piston cores (E48-22, E48-28, E49-18, E49-23) are used to determine deep-water circulation conditions in the Southern Ocean during the last 450,000 years. The faunal data exhibit glacial-interglacial oscillations that are interpreted to reflect a reduced influence of North Atlantic Deep Water upon the Antarctic Circumpolar Current during glacial intervals. © 1983.
