An expanded form of the activating function for neural excitation has been developed. This new form can be used to predict accurately axon excitation and thus avoid complex, time consuming calculations. The new function represents the NET (neural excitation threshold) driving source activating a particular node (sum of all sources contributing to the polarization of a single node). Common errors associated with the use of the traditional activating function are presented by a comparison between these two functions in a simple example.
