Velocity of action potential propagation along a cardiac cell strand is studied as a function of intercellular junctional capacitance and resistance (cj and rj). For a given rj, a larger cj increases velocity. Thus, velocity slowing due to increased rj is smaller when cj is incorporated into the model. Assuming a junctional membrane capacitance of 51 μF/cm2, the results agree with the previously reported velocity decrease in ischemic myocardium.
