We determined the independent predictors of mortality in 3,787 patients with angiographically diagnosed ischemic or nonischemic cardiomyopathy. Ischemic etiology independently predicted mortality after adjustment for baseline clinical characteristics. A Cox proportional hazards regression model that included the extent of coronary disease, however, prognostic information than the clinical diagnosis of ischemic or nonischemic cardiomyopathy.
