Human patient simulation as a research tool in cognitive engineering

This paper discusses the use of human patient simulators in medical cognitive engineering research. We present different types of simulators and their application in the design and evaluation of medical devices and procedures, as part of cognitive task analysis, and in studies of performance shaping factors. We conclude with the limitations and advantages of patient simulation as a research tool. © 2007 IEEE.
