Management of urethral injuries

Journal Article

The management of urethral injury is determined by a number of variables including the location, etiology, and extent of the injury, and the presence of associated trauma. These factors, together with the individual surgeon's own treatment philosophy developed from previous experience, will determine whether urethral realignment or repair is performed immediately, delayed a few days or weeks from the time of the injury (delayed primary repair), or delayed until months after the injury (secondary repair). In each of these three alternatives the technique used may be endoscopic or may involve open surgery.
