Report on the fourth international workshop on Data Management for Sensor Networks (DMSN 2007)
A report on the Fourth International Workshop on Data Management for Sensor Networks (DMSN), which was held on September 24, 2007, is presented. The topics presented include a keystone address, three research sessions, panel discussion on the present and the future of sensor data management research. Prof. Gustavo Alonso from ETH Zurich delivered the keynote address under the theme, Myths and Realities of Sensor Network Data Management. Gustavo started his discussion with the assumptions about wireless sensor networks that are made by the research community and provided audience with an extensive understanding about the sensor networks. The research sessions include three features in-network processing, novel sensing modalities, and modeling and programming sensor networks. Four panelists from reputed universities also participated in the roundtable discussion and all of them discovered support for approximation, uncertainty, and statistical methods as important challenges.
