Novel technique for the treatment of calcaneal tuberosity fractures

Calcaneal fractures account for 60% of all tarsal fractures; however, tuberosity fractures only comprise 1% to 2% of these. Treatment of the displaced calcaneal tuberosity has traditionally included open reduction internal fixation with a variety of means or percutaneous techniques to reduce the fracture. We describe our technique for excision of the calcaneal tuberosity fragment with repair of the Achilles tendon supplemented by a flexor hallucis longus tendon transfer. © 2013 by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins.
