Anaphylaxis represents one of the most life-threatening emergencies that can occur in the perioperative period. Multiple agents are potentially responsible, and nonallergic reactions can mimic anaphylaxis. Developing a therapeutic plan for the acute therapy of anaphylaxis is important. Prompt recognition of the problem and appropriate, aggressive therapy can potentially help avoid a disastrous outcome.
