Assessment of fear reactions in sexual assault victims: A factor analytic study of the Veronen-Kilpatrick modified fear survey

Journal Article

The Veronen-Kilpatrick Modified Fear Survey (VK-MFS) was developed to assess the level and content of fear reactions in sexual assault victims. The purpose of the present study was to begin refining the scale by means of a factor analysis of 292 female rape victims and 163 nonvictims. Eight clearly definable factors emerged. On six of these factors, victims scored significantly differently than nonvictims. Findings are discussed with regard to former research and to potential uses of the VK-MFS in research and clinical work. © 1986.
