Overview
Emily is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies at Duke University studying ancient Greek art and archaeology. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on representations of women that have survived in the material culture of the ancient Greek world. Emily’s dissertation, “Assembling Women: Performance and Community in the Tanagra Figurines,” posits that Tanagra figurines—which may have been produced, acquired, and curated primarily by girls and women in the late classical and Hellenistic periods—function as an archive for the lived experiences and communities of women in the ancient Mediterranean.
