Overview
Graduate student specializing in demography, criminology and quantitative methods. I am broadly interested in jails and the individuals who experience confinement in them. My work looks at conditions of confinement in jails, and also examines the roles these facilities play in local communities and have played across the era of mass incarceration. My dissertation is on the topic of jail leasing, or the practice by which state corrections departments enter into contractual agreements with local authorities to house individuals in jails instead of prisons. I am also interested in the aging of the justice-involved population and am involved in several projects aiming to identify the circumstances and needs of such individuals inside and outside of confinement spaces.
