Overview


Jonathan Homrighausen is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in Religion (Hebrew Bible) at Duke University, writes at the intersection of sacred text, lettering arts, and scribal crafts. He has authored two books on The Saint John’s Bible, most recently Planting Letters and Weaving Lines: Calligraphy, the Song of Songs, and The Saint John’s Bible (Liturgical Press, 2022). His writings have also appeared in the MAVCOR Journal, Religion and the Arts, Image, The Visual Commentary on Scripture, The Christian Century, and the Oxford Encyclopedia of Religion and the Arts.

Currently he is completing his dissertation, Writing Esther, which unpacks the materiality of the Megillat Esther in Judaism and shows how Jews have used the written artifact to think through pivotal theological questions raised by the Book of Esther. He also serves as Adjunct Lecturer in Judaic Studies and Religious Studies at the College of William & Mary.
