Failure of neonatal ethanol exposure to impair maze acquisition in rats

Ten Holtzman rats whose dams received only a 6% (v/v) ethanol and water solution to drink throughout lactation and 10 rats whose dams received only water to drink were compared, as adults (135 days of age), on acquisition of a complex, 4 choice maze task. The alcohol offspring were more variable in acquisition, but did not require significantly more trials or errors to attain acquisition criterion.
