Hyperglycemia is common among hospitalized patients, and improved glycemic control has been shown to improve clinical outcomes such as infection risk and hospital length of stay (LOS). Improved glycemic control can be facilitated through a diabetes care team or general endocrinology consultation. One retrospective study examined the effect of diabetes team consultation on the outcome LOS, and the investigators reported a 56% shorter LOS among those patients who were seen by a diabetes team versus those who had no consultation. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
