On reducing granular distortion in multiple description quantization

There is a gap of 3.07 dB between the distortion product of a multiple description quantizer and the multiple description rate distortion bound. In this paper we seek to close this gap through the design of a quantizer with smaller granular distortion. © 1998 IEEE.
