A procedure is described for the purification of basidiospores of Filobasidiella neoformans. The method involves the use of flow cytometry, and yields a suspension containing approximately 4 × 104 infective particles ml-1, of which greater than 95% are basidiospores. The application of this procedure to studies of the pathogenesis of cryptococcosis is discussed. © 1982 Informa UK Ltd All rights reserved: reproduction in whole or part not permitted.
